Remembering Benay von Husen

Benay Widlund von Husen | November 1940 – January 2021

As a recent past treasurer and Board member of GTA, Benay was born in Minneapolis and lived most of her adult life in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband, John. Benay studied at the University of MN, and Golden Gate University in SF. Early in her career, she held a securities license working for brokerage firms in CA & Hawaii. She later started her own auditing business, Widlund Company.

A fantastic cook, Benay enjoyed entertaining family and friends, especially on Thanksgiving, her favorite holiday, and during Pt Reyes Western Weekend, where she and John maintained a second home.

Benay was a great enthusiast and patron of opera and classical music, but she could also be seen enjoying herself while listening to live rock n roll bands. Benay was very active, playing 18 holes of golf weekly. She was a SF poll worker for more than 40 elections and member of the San Rafael Elks 1108, the Inverness Yacht Club, and the Marines Memorial Association.

Always positive and affable, Benay took obvious pleasure in the numerous friendships she maintained over her many years here at the Gateway. Memorial gatherings will be planned by her family for California & Minnesota, once it is safe to get together again.
