Sometimes people wonder why a tenants association is needed and question what we do and why they should join and support us.
GGTA’s main mission, and reason why it was founded, is to protect rent control. But our board also works hard behind-the-scenes to maintain and improve the quality of life for all residents on many levels. While we don’t advocate for tenants in individual disputes with management, we communicate with the Gateway regularly about security and other issues affecting all residents.
Recently, we’ve been watchdogs and advocates for a number of other neighborhood topics, including:
Asking the Chinatown shuttle to stop running diesel buses along Washington Street, which pollutes our air and apartments
Monitoring plans for a 19-story, 182-room hotel with eight condos at 447 Battery St., which will take the place of the building housing Cort Furniture (for more details on an upcoming meeting, please click here: http://goldengatewaytenants.org/meeting-dec-8-for-proposed-high-rise-hotel-on-battery/)
Attending public meetings on affordable housing planned for Broadway and Front Street and potential dedicated bike lanes on the Embarcadero
Supporting the new Teatro ZinZanni circus dinner theater and hotel on Broadway and the Embarcadero
All this is in addition to organizing monthly socials and other special events to build community, such as our annual Halloween Party in conjunction with the Barbary Coast Neighborhood Association and an upcoming Holiday Party on Dec. 15 at a member’s home in Vista West. Also, save the date for our 2017 Annual Meeting on Feb. 25; more details to come.
Keep an eye our on this News page and on Nextdoor for information about socials and events, and please visit our Join or Renew page to sign up for only $15 your first year. We work hard on your behalf; please help us continue to help our community!
